Origin Technologies Limited was founded in 2000 by entrepreneur Tim Rock, who saw the need for an affordable and accurate way of alerting drivers to the increasing number of speed cameras on UK roads. He was also involved in commissioning widely quoted research by MORI into drivers’ attitudes about speed limits and speed trap detectors in order to back up a report to the British government.
Origin has now been designing GPS-based safety camera warning systems for over a decade – longer than any other company in the world, and collating it’s UK safety camera database (the Origin360 database) for longer than anyone – since March 2000, in fact. Origin launched its first GPS-based camera location system in 2001; the recently released Pogo Alert+ is Origin’s fourth generation product and is a true successor to the highly regarded and much missed Origin b2. In March 2007, Origin rebranded its product line-up, replacing the Origin brand name with “Pogo”. Consumer research conducted prior to the change revealed that both Origin b2 users and non users preferred the Pogo brand name to the Origin brand name; it was felt to be more confident, bolder, fresher, more memorable and more consumer friendly. Furthermore, the Pogo name was thought to be more in keeping with a brand which was expected to deliver high-end, innovative and market leading product solutions.

And the future? Origin will continue to innovate in its product development programme and utilise the latest-available technology. Although it is probably impossible to make the recently launched Pogo Alert+ even smaller whilst maintaining the product’s capabilities, we’ll never stop trying! We will continue to work with only top quality retail partners to help “spread the word” and sell our products, whilst seeking new retailers both in the UK and overseas. And, of course, an uppermost priority is to maintain the unbeatable quality of the Origin360 safety camera database, recognised as being the best available in the UK; after all, a safety camera warning system is ultimately only as good as its database.
